COMP Team Won First Class Award in Student Supercomputer Challenge 2018

A team of Computer Science students won the First Class Award in the Student Supercomputer Challenge 2018 held in May. The HKBU team reached the final and won the First Class Award out of more than 300 enrolled teams from around the world. The HKBU team was the only one from Hong Kong to reach the final.

Led by Dr. Chu Xiaowen, Associate Professor, the team comprised Ni Ronghao (Year 2), Wang Shihao (Year 3), Feng Zijin (Year 3), Wang Haixin (Year 3) and Wong Tsz Shing (Year 3).

The contest is one of the world’s largest supercomputing contests. After two months of preliminary matches, 20 teams were selected for the finals, which were held in Nanchang University in China. The final round required teams to design and build their own supercomputing system, with the constraint of 3,000 watts of power, and apply it to six front-line scientific and engineering projects.

Supervised by Dr. Chu Xiaowen, the team comprised Year 3 Students Wong Tsz Shing, Wang Shihao, Wang Haixin, Feng Zijin and Year 2 Student Ni Ronghao (from left to right) won the First Class Award in the Student Supercomputer Challenge 2018.
