Five MSc students team up with other HKBU students and are awarded top prizes in the Global AI Challenge for Building E&M Facilities – AI Competition, organised by the Guangdong Provincial Association for Science and Technology and the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department of the Government of the HKSAR.

HKBU young talents from Computer Science, Finance and Decision Sciences, Geography, and Physics form five multi-disciplinary teams. Each team has to build up their own semantic AI model to predict the cooling demand of commercial buildings and present their ideas to judges.

Yin Yiao (MSc in Data Analytics and Artificial Intelligence) and Zhou Shucheng (MSc in Information Technology Management)’s team won the Grand Prize. The other four teams including Mak Lok Yi, Tang Zhiye (MSc in Data Analytics and Artificial Intelligence) and Yang Xu (MSc in Information Technology Management) receive the Gold, Silver and Bronze prizes respectively.

The international AI Competition aims at promoting the AI technologies and semantic AI platforms for building energy conservation and facilitating scholar’s R&D collaboration on smart building technologies. It encourages innovators to come up with new solutions on achieving greater building energy efficiency and bring positive impact to the world with AI technology.
