A transdisciplinary team of five, comprising a MSc graduate from the Department of Computer Science and his teammates with diverse expertise in mathematics, business, and Chinese medicine, co-founded "
theFIPA". Their team clinched the prestigious Championship title at the Dean's Cup Business Innovation Gymnasium (BIG) 9.0 for their cutting-edge project, titled “FIP Analyzer”.
Addressing the ongoing challenge of diagnosing Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP) in the cat industry, the project leverages an AI-powered diagnostic system known as "FIP Analyzer". This innovative solution empowers cat owners affected by FIP with timely access to crucial information and support, enabling faster and more accurate diagnosis processes.
Neo Chen, our MSc graduate in Data Analytics and Artificial Intelligence, was instrumental in the development of the "FIP Analyzer" AI project. Neo managed data and trained a model that accurately predicts FIP in cats, achieving over 95% accuracy and precision. Furthermore, Neo deployed the model on Microsoft Azure, simplifying the process for users to input blood test reports for FIP diagnosis.
"This entrepreneurship project has ignited my passion to leverage innovative technologies and data insights for animal welfare," Neo expressed with enthusiasm. "It's been an immensely rewarding experience to apply the computer science expertise, gained from MSc program to tackle a real-world challenge. My team and I will continue to harness cutting-edge technologies to drive greater positive societal impact," he concluded.
The Dean’s Cup BIG, hosted annually by the Entrepreneurship and Innovation Centre (EIC) of HKBU School of Business since 2017, is a business idea competition which provides a platform for students to develop their business ideas.
