Entrance Requirements for Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)
Applicants seeking admission to the PhD degree programme should
possess; |
A |
a master's degree from a recognized university or comparable institution; OR
|
B |
a bachelor's degree with first class honours from a recognized university or
comparable institution; OR |
C |
any other qualification deemed by the Research Committee of the University
to be acceptable for this purpose. |
Candidates under paragraph (b) should have evidence of research
achievement/experience. They may be admitted to the MPhil programme initially,
but with a view that they will proceed to the PhD programme after satisfactorily
passing assessment at the time of candidature confirmation. |
Candidates under paragraph (c) may be required to take a
qualifying examination in which event their progress shall be reported to the
Research Committee at the end of their first year of study.

Entrance Requirements for Master of Philosophy (MPhil)
Applicants seeking admission to the MPhil degree programme should

a bachelor's degree with honours from a recognized university or comparable
institution; OR |

a qualification deemed to be equivalent, and, if required, shall satisfy the
examiners in a qualifying examination. |
Normally, only first and second class honours graduates will be
considered to have met the admissions criterion under paragraph (a). Graduates
with third class honours degrees, with a period of relevant work experience and
satisfactory results in the qualifying examination, will also be considered.

Additional Admission Related Issues
Language Requirements |
An applicant seeking admission on the basis of a qualification from a university or comparable institution outside Hong Kong of which the language of teaching and/or examination is not English is required to obtain a minimum score in the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) 79 (Internet-based Test) or International English Language Testing System (IELTS) at 6.5. Consideration will also be made for applicants with a minimum overall score in the College English Test (CET)^ Band 6 at 500 and grade B in the CET-SET (Speaking English Test). The TOEFL institution code of the Hong Kong Baptist University is 9467.
^Students admitted on the basis of CET 6/SET results would be required to take an English proficiency test upon commencement of study to determine whether and which level of remedial English courses are required.

Transfer Students |
Under normal circumstances, applicants who are studying for a master's
degree at the Baptist University or other institutions, seeking transfer to any
master's degree courses at the Baptist University will not be considered.

Double Registration |
Unless otherwise approved by the University, candidates admitted are
normally not permitted to register part-time or full-time for any other
qualification either at the Baptist University itself or at any other local
institutions of higher learning. Candidates breaching this regulation are
subject to discontinuation of their studies at the University.

Student Visa |
The Hong Kong Immigration Department requires all fulltime non-local students
(from overseas or the Chinese Mainland) to obtain a student visa in order to
study in Hong Kong. Applications should normally be made at least two months in
advance. Part-time non-local students should possess appropriate and valid visa
to prove their eligibility to stay and study in Hong Kong.
Applicants from the Chinese Mainland should submit their student visa
applications through the University. Applicants will be informed of the details
once they are given the admission offer.
Applicants from overseas should make their own enquiries about the student
visa requirements from a Chinese Embassy in their home territory, or by writing
directly to: The Immigration Department, 7 Gloucester Road, Wanchai, Hong Kong.
Students who have encountered difficulties in nominating a local visa sponsor
may approach the Graduate School for assistance. |

Application materials can be obtained from the Office of Graduate School or
through the Internet at the Graduate School homepage at

Applications should be submitted online via the online application system. Applicants are also required to submit
supporting documents along with their application.
- Certificate(s) and Transcript(s)
Degree certificate(s)/graduation diploma(s), and transcript(s), including the institution’s grading system;
- English Proficiency test results (e.g. TOEFL iBT, IELTS Academic);
- Confidential
recommendations from the two referees;
- Photocopies of the applicant's Hong Kong Identity Card (Non-local applicants
please provide photocopies of passport or other identity document of their home
country); AND
- Non-local applicants applying for part-time postgraduate courses should
provide a photocopy of an appropriate and valid visa to prove their eligibility
to stay and study in Hong Kong.
Shortlisted applicants will normally be interviewed by academic staff prior
to admission approval being granted. A qualifying examination may also be
required.
