Dr. Xu joined the Computer Science Department of Hong Kong Baptist University after he received his PhD degree in Computer Science from Hong Kong University of Science and Technology in 2002. He obtained his BEng degree in Computer Science and Engineering from Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, China in 1998. Prior to that, he received his secondary education from Suzhou High School from 1991 to 1994. Dr. Xu has been a visiting scholar at Pennsylvania State University, University Park (in Summer 2005) and a senior visiting fellow at Fudan University (in Winter 2009). He is a fellow of HKBU-UIC Joint Institute of Research Studies and a member of Database Research Group at Hong Kong Baptist University.

Dr. Xu has more than 100 publications as edited books and proceedings, invited book chapters, and technical papers in referred journals and conferences including ACM TODS, SIGMOD, MobiSys, IEEE ICDE, INFOCOM, ICDCS, ToN, TKDE, TPDS, and VLDBJ. He has been invited to serve on organizing and program committees for dozens of international conferences and workshops including IEEE ICDE, ICDCS, INFOCOM, WWW, and ACM CIKM. Dr. Xu was a recipient of ICDE Outstanding Reviewer Award (2010) and a Vice-Chair of ACM Hong Kong Chapter (2008-09). He is a senior member of IEEE.

      Data Management, Mobile/Pervasive Computing, Distributed and Networked Systems.
